Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between information literacy and professional ethics, knowledge sharing and social capital of librarians of public libraries in East Azerbaijan province.
Method: The present study is applied. The research method is descriptive-correlation and specifically based on structural equation modeling. The statistical population includes all the staff of public libraries of East Azerbaijan province with 370 people. 250 of them were selected by simple random sampling. Four standard questionnaires were used to collect information in this study.
Findings: The findings showed that information literacy, professional ethics and knowledge sharing in librarians are high and social capital is moderate. There is also a positive and significant relationship between information literacy and professional ethics, knowledge sharing and social capital, and this means that information literacy has a direct effect on professional ethics, knowledge sharing and social capital.
Conclusion: Strengthening the level of information literacy promotes the level of professional ethics, knowledge sharing and social capital of public library librarians. Therefore, public library managers should try to increase their information literacy in order to strengthen the professional ethics, knowledge sharing and social capital of librarians.
